Whether a single country trip, like England, Ireland, and Scotland – or a multiple trip like from UK to Europe, and perhaps beyond.

This is a simple guide to help with catering for the unexpected events that can pop up whilst you’re venturing to new locations. It always helps if you are in group but this guide is helpful even if you are travelling alone, and choose to engage with new characters along your journey.

Holiday Highlights

A slightly obvious tip is to pick which destinations you aim to experience, though bear in mind that you may deter from the initial plan but this is usually only once you’ve truly gained a local sense of where you are, and by then you’ll probably want to create another plan for your detour.

There are a few useful holiday planner books available if you’re a tangible person, including the MrsChadt’s Holiday Planner. Or you can seek savvy online planning tools, like Weather2Travel: which allows for you to pick your ideal temperature and hours of sunshine, or the cuter NHS Change 4 Life: which allows for you to drag and drop activities to make up your custom holiday calendar.

Planning is unbelievably undervalued by a lot of people when they’re going on a trip, yet every successful person knows that the work preparation in the beginning allows for a genuine rest and play in the end.

Protect Yourself

Just a quick note! If travelling up through the country, or halfway around the world, and stopping off at various points, it’s always best to consider some low cost, backup, added security, multi trip cover.  Insurance is cheap when purchased prior to the trip; though costs have set record amounts for an individual’s pocket when they have travelled uninsured, and lost their camera, or had their passport stolen, or missed a flight, or even ended up in hospital! Gruesome stuff to discuss but the truth hurts! Pay very little up front, especially if secured by a tailored cover, and then enjoy your trips with the subconscious that you’re protected.

Suitcase to Swing or Backpack to Bring

The Case Vs. the Pack. A case that has no right or wrong as it all depends on who, what, where, when to decide upon why. Which suitcase or rucksack is entirely up to you: are you camping or glamping (posh camping)?

Usually the type of baggage is determined by the length of your journey.  The suitcase is notably known as most people take one return trip to a single destination: a usual maximum of six weeks if they’re fortunate! And then they’ll often return back to their daily vocations. Or the weekend break, or discount ten-day break may be an option but the last thing anyone wants is to schlep around a bag whilst on an inspiring respite.

A decent rucksack to a long haul multi trip traveller is like a Swiss-army knife to a jungle bound resourceful soldier.  Personal baggage of this type is recommended for those who plan to travel over six months or more, where you literally carry your world with you.

To keep it very simple, Ebay or Amazon will most definitely provide the most suitable types of baggage to your needs and taste.

Get Globally Fit

This is just a simple reminder and recommendation to get all of your certificates and jabs before hoping onto any boats or planes, and being shore lined because you don’t have the correct status of health to enter the territory.

The NHS (Scotland) has a brilliant bite-sized travel health guide online, which is very handy for keeping up to date with the latest in international health requirements: do a Google of the ‘destinations FitForTravel’, where you’ll find a simple map that provides easy access to a lot of global health information.

Above all else, it sort of goes without saying that you should make an effort to be physically fit, even if just in prep for your journey.  You’ll find a little more bounce in your step can give you a lot more control over your time and energy.

So in a nutshell, it all boils down to simple prep.  The earlier you start (well done for reading this!) the better off you really will be, even if this only helps to improve your attitude to travel, it’s a start.

This is a small amount of the tips that are available for you to quickly scan over, make use of, and hopefully utilise to make the most out of your multi trip.

This site is packed with travel information and support, so please do continue on if interested.

Above all else, ensure you are insured.  Travel Insurance Web is recommended here for low-cost, reliable, multi trip cover.
